Last week, we watched a movie in our lab. This movie is taken place in Tuskegee, Alabama. This movie talks about a nurse whose name is Ms. Evers. The hospital told the people in the town to come for treatment. The hospital said that all the treatment was free and they would get free lunch. After the blood test, most of the people have been found have syphilis. Dr. Douglas and Dr. Sam Brodus gave these people the treatment. But they didn’t tell people that they have syphilis. They told them that they are being treated for “Bad Blood”. Later, something happened. The government told doctors that they don’t have money to give them for treatment. However, if the doctors do the experiments on these patients and find a real treatment of syphilis in 6 months to 1 year, the government will give money for treatment. Dr. Douglas and Sam Brodus, they have no choice. They follow the government, do the experiments on the town people and they lied to patients. A lot of people die during the “treatment”. Caleb joined the army and he got the treatment. At the end, Caleb left; Ms. Evers sits in the cemetery and cried, because some of the people are her best friends.
I don’t like this movie, because I think Ms. Evers made the wrong choice. She could tell the patients whole the truth, but she did not do that. I hoped Caleb and Evers would go and stay together; the ending was sad. I was surprised that the government let the hospital do the experiments on the patients; that was cruel and immoral. I can’t believe that happens in America, the strongest country in the world. I will ask where the human rights and equality are. Although this movie is sad, I will show this movie to my older sister. Her major is biology, so I think this movie will give her some help.
